Bengals Nip Oilers in One Remarkable Game

Cincinnati,

A game that did not cheat any fans in River Front, both the Oilers and Bengals dueled in a game that seemed to feature big and unexpected plays. However, it did not appear to be a great game at first as the Bengals got out to a quick 14-0 lead when Esiason hit Eddie Brown with touchdown passes of 33 and 25 yards.  The game remained that way for the first half. After 3 quarters of play, the Bengals held onto a 14-3 lead. Both teams had troubles. Houston could not convert on several 4th and shorts while the Bengals had back to back punts blocked and Jim Breech missed a short field goal. All hell broke loose in the fourth quarter as the Oilers came storming back with 21 unanswered points to take the lead. Mike Rozier busted in for a 2 yard touchdown with 37 ticks left on the clock which appeared to lock things up for the visiting Oilers.  Houston kicked off with a squib that gave the Bengals good field position at the Cincy 42.  After an incompletion over the middle to tight end Eric Kattus, Esiason hit Cris Collinsworth down the far sideline, and he out raced the Houston defense for 58 yards and a touchdown with 10 seconds left. The extra point was blocked.  Warren Moon hit Hill down the middle for 32 yards but time ran out. Final score...Bengals 27...Oilers 24.
